Local Education Authority
Tavistock Infant School was established in 1972. The school is a non-denominational school maintained by Hampshire Education Authority. Any information that parents require from the Education Authority can be obtained from:
Hampshire County Council,
Telephone: 01962 847742
Please make your own arrangements to take children to and from school, unfortunately there is no room in the staff car park for parents. Please find somewhere to park in the neighbouring area. It is a good idea to park a little way away from school and walk the last part of your journey if you can. Please ensure that you do not park in the main entrance or on the yellow zig zag lines as it is important to keep this area clear for emergency services. Please park considerately around Broadacres as it is important that we remain on friendly terms with our immediate neighbours. Please help us to keep all our children safe.
The school colours are pillar box red, white and grey.
Grey trousers, long or short. Grey or white socks. Grey or white shirt, or red or white polo shirt. Red pullover, sweatshirt or slipover.
Grey or skirt or pinafore dress. White or red blouse, plain or patterned. White or red polo shirt. Red cardigan, pullover or sweatshirt. Grey, red or white socks. Summer dresses can be any red or red and white dress material.
Sweatshirts, cardigans, joggers and polo shirts are available in various styles to order from Brigade Clothing Ltd and are embroidered with the school design and name – Click here to order Brigade School Uniform. Please also note the following links as these are another way for Brigade to inform you of ordering deadlines and offers that may be missed.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT CLOTHING IS MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME.
To enable your child to benefit from the physical education offered in our curriculum, I would ask you to provide the following items:

Many opportunities exist for children to take part in lunchtime and after school activities. These include Computer Club, French Club, Gardening Club, Club Energy, ActivKids and Football Club. For details of days and times please contact the school office. Some of these activities are run by outside organisations and there is a charge.
The School Council is made up of elected representatives who meet together to bring ideas and issues from the class council meetings to be discussed. Councillors meet with staff and governors to make decisions that help to improve our school. The School Council has worked with staff on the new playground arrangements and the Tavistock Lunchtime Charter. A few years ago they represented our school at a Fleet School Council Day where they worked on suggestions for improving road safety in our community.
Visit Parents’ Corner in the school entrance hall for information about local and school events, holiday play schemes, school lunches, lunch box advice and much more.
Don’t forget that the most recent newsletters can be found in the red book in Parents’ Corner if you think you may have missed one! The office staff will be happy to give you another copy.
Free Fruit and Vegetable Scheme
All children may have a piece of free fruit or vegetable each day for morning break. Children who cannot eat particular fruits or vegetables can bring their own healthy snack on request. All children should bring a bottle of water to drink during the day.
Children can have a free school lunch cooked on the premises or bring their own packed lunch. School meals are very carefully planned by the catering company HC3S. You can visit their website here and see the menus plus lots of other interesting information. We hope that meal-time will provide an opportunity for children to get to know children from other classes. There are two lunch sittings with each class having around 30 minutes free-time.
(Please note that for Tavistock Infants on Week 2 the non-meat option on Wednesdays will be Pizza, and the non-meat option on Fridays will be Tortilla).
During lunchtimes children can take advantage of the playground climbing equipment and games, they can join in with organised activities such as football. or they can visit the library and enjoy a book.
