Week 2 – A Rather Rascally Week.
On Monday, we launched into the first full week of the Spring term. We started our first English unit based around the wonderful story of ‘The Rascally Cake’ by Jeanne Willis and Korky Paul. The purpose of this is leading towards the children writing a set of instructions for their own rascally cake. The highlight of the week was making our rascally sandwiches on Thursday. We made ‘maggot’ sandwiches, ‘bogey’ sandwiches and ‘spider legs’ sandwiches. You would be amazed at how tasty a lime jelly sandwich actually is. There was even a child in Fox class who sent her parents out with a shopping list so that she could have spider legs sandwiches for her lunch on Friday!
In Maths this week, we have been investigating the properties of numbers. We started off by investigating odd and even numbers. We then played ‘Guess My Number’ where the children had to give clues about a number. The following link is a super activity, which the children have all enjoyed playing in class: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=ThinkingOfANumberv3. The children then went on to do the following investigation with a partner and there were some great discussions.
You have a set of the digits from 0 – 9.
Can you arrange these digits in the five boxes below to make two-digit numbers as close to the targets as possible? You may use each digit once only.
Next week in Maths the focus will be on position and direction so if you want to help, test your children on their knowledge of left and right hand turns!
We started our new Gymnastics unit in P.E. when we will be making bridges. A few children didn’t have P.E. kit in school so please check before next week’s lessons. Squirrel class do P.E. on a Tuesday, Mole on a Wednesday and Fox on a Thursday.
This weekend I have the rare treat of some time on my own with only the cat to talk to if I want to. I am looking forward to some reading and pottering about. I may bust some dust but then again I might not!
Enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday morning.
