TAFF have been in school again today helping the children to choose gifts for Mother’s Day on Sunday. I know for a fact that all the helpers have other jobs that they actually get paid for, but time and time again they give up their ‘spare’ time doing lovely things for the children. They have a long list of events in the pipeline and I know you will play your part by supporting the events so that extra money is raised to help Tavistock enrich the learning experiences the children have at school. Thank you to TAFF and thank you to you for supporting them. Oh, you can come along to help with the BIG TIDY UP on Saturday if you are at a loose end. I believe that children will be using their muscles to pull up weeds, that might wear them out and then they might be in bed early. Always a positive.

Back to Mother’s Day. In our assemblies this week we actually talked about ‘Mother’s and Others’ Day’ because families come in all shapes and sizes. For some people, myself included because my mum lives in heaven, this is a sad day or a day to wish things were different. I have wonderful memories of her but another cuddle would be lovely. As you know I was a single mum so our family at home was just Eleanor, Seamus the dog and me! We had extended family and friends of course, but it was just the 3 of us in Fleet. There is a saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and that is absolutely true. In the assemblies we talked about all the people who love and care for us and the list really was endless. Some of the children have enormous support networks and they are very lucky indeed. Your Christmas card lists must be enormous and the price of stamps! Whether you are a mother or an other have a wonderful day on Sunday because you deserve it.

As Reading Week ends Science Week begins. Is there no end to the excitement? I was always in ‘top set’ for science at school but I think it was more to make up the numbers than having an aptitude for the subject. I could do the chemistry bit because I was good at maths and equations, the biology was okay, but the physics puzzled me. I never felt that I was ‘any good’ at science and it scared me a bit. There is still so much about the world that fascinates me and so much I don’t understand. I am sure that the children will have a fascinating week and I know that if they don’t understand something the staff will scoop them up and try to explain things in a different way.

No-one is counting but it will be 2 weeks and 4 days until Good Friday, ergo the Easter Holidays on Monday. Have a lovely weekend and I hope the weather is as lovely as it looks outside my window.
