History of Fleet (Bumblebee Class)

Today, as a class, we spoke about signs of change we can see from the past. We asked ourselves the question “What has changed since our grandparents were children?” We spoke about Fleet and what we already know about its history. We then spent some time looking at some photos of Fleet from the past. We had a great discussion about how we knew some of the photos were taken a long time ago and some were taken more recently. As a class, we then sequenced the photos from oldest to newest. This led to a lot more talking and … Read more

Meteor Experiment – Bumblebee Class

First of all, we talked about why dinosaurs no longer roam the planet. We talked about the impact on the world when a big meteorite hit and wiped out all of the dinosaurs making them extinct. We decided it would be a good idea to create our own experiment and we answered the question “if the meteorite is further away, will it make a bigger impact?” We used a marble instead of a meteorite as we decided this is probably the safer option. First we did our predictions then we carried out the experiment. We dropped the marble from 3 … Read more

Music Lesson – Bumblebee Class

In music this week, we started off by responding to 2 pieces of classical music. We closed our eyes and listened intently. We spoke about the dynamics of soft and loud. Next, we learnt about the meaning of duration. We used Beethoven’s 5th Symphony as our prime example of long sounds and short sounds. We had a go at using different musical instruments and we listened to whether each instrument created a long or short sound. After that, we had a go at composing and performing a group piece of music focussing on dynamics and duration. In our final lesson, we … Read more

Dinosaur Art – Bumblebee Class

During our art lessons this week, Bumblebee class have loved working in groups to create sculptures of dinosaur footprints. First, we sculpted the shape of the footprint by manipulating paper and newspaper. We used techniques such as rolling, pinching, twisting and squeezing. After that, we used Papier Mache to cover the sculpture. We had lots of fun and we are very excited to paint them after half term. Well done, Bumblebees!

Computing – Bumblebee Class

In computing this term, we have been learning that electronic devices are controlled by inputting functions on a control that have a specific effect on an object. We now know this is called an algorithm. We understand that electronic devices can be used to solve problems by inputting functions. We also understand that a set of instructions can be represented by a flow chart. We have been using BeeBots to input an algorithm for the device to follow. We had a go at creating our own flow chart and asking our peers to following the instructions. (Mrs Ford)

Great Fire of London Workshop – Bumblebee Class

We then had our fantastic workshop on Wednesday. The children absolutely loved it! First of all, we learnt that the Great Fire of London took place the year after the Great Plague. We then learnt about the sequence of events that took place during the Great Fire of London. We indulged in some drama activities to re-enact the fire and to sequence the events, and we thought about the differences in people’s lives and what firefighting was like in the past. After that, we explored why the fire was so devastating because of differences in housing and firefighting in 1666. … Read more
