NO-ONE FELL OFF THE STAGE BLOG

What a wonderful week we have had at Tavistock celebrating the performing talents of all our children. They had so many songs and poems to learn, actions to remember and costumes to negotiate. Each and every child should be very proud of themselves for the part they played. It is such a long way from Nazareth to Fleet that their little feet must have been hurting. I always feel quite sorry for Joseph because Mary gets to ride on the donkey the whole way!

Life in school is always very busy and there is always something to celebrate but the autumn term feels particularly busy. It’s probably because it’s back to school, training/getting used to new teachers and routines, Harvest, Elf runs, panto trips, vegetables that don’t look like they do at home, homework, so many art projects…I am exhausted just typing. Plus there are the dark nights to contend with as well. We have all nearly made it and have learnt so much along the way.

This term has been strange for me because I suddenly disappeared and sampled what it could possibly be like when I eventually retire. As exhausting and stressful life can be as a HT and I am not getting any younger, I really think I would be bored to death if I was just at home. My little grey cells as Poirot calls them, are still firing on most days and I am very lucky that Tavistock is such a positive community. Obviously we can’t please all the people all the time but thankfully any issues are resolved quickly and we all move on. I had a lovely hot chocolate with some of my HT colleagues this week and we all have stories to tell about our ups and downs. We laugh and cry with each other and are thankful that we are there for each other.

I am off up to London tomorrow to see Les Misérables because it is my birthday. I share a birthday with Donny Osmond so we are meeting at Covent Garden, having a drink and a nibble then heading to the theatre. I really hope he doesn’t bring all his brothers this year because it is getting a bit much. Donny will be 66 tomorrow and he must have had work done because his lovely face looks as young as it did when he was stuck on my bedroom wall in Chorley. I will not be 66 but I am catching him up. Where did all the years go?

I just had a sentimental flash of my life as a little girl growing up in Chorley with my very young parents and sister. My brother came along 10 years later and I suspect that there may have been a power cut because he was a lovely surprise. As I said, my mum and dad were very young and had 2 little girls by the time they were 21. Dad used to cycle to Leyland Motors from Chorley before he had a car and mum always worked too. We were lucky enough to live in the same town as both sets of grandparents so they were on hand for free childcare. I have made a few unwise choices in my time but have come out the other side. Older and wiser they say and I am clinging on to that.

Whatever you do this weekend have a wonderful time but try to take a bit of time for yourself because we break up on Friday at 3.15 and you can have your wonderful children for 2 whole exciting weeks.

HOHOHO.
