A Ticket to Ride!

It has been lovely to see all the children come back after half term fully rested and throwing themselves back into their learning with such enthusiasm! We are very proud of the way in which the children have been continuing to come into the classroom independently and we appreciate your continued support with this.  The amount the children are learning this term has really increased so the sooner the children settle, the quicker we can start our fun packed day.

Our new topic for this half term is ‘A Ticket to Ride’ and last week our story of the week was ‘The Naughty Bus’.  The children enjoyed finding out all about what the naughty bus got up to and produced some fantastic buses in the creative area, as well as using lots of junk modelling to make buses and London landmarks. Thank you for sending in lots of junk modelling, the children really have put it to good use.

In phonics we introduced new letter sounds and continued to use the sounds taught to write about the naughty bus. We were so impressed with letter formation and sounding out words.

In number we have been focussing on numbers 1, 2 and 3. We use the series Numberblocks as a starting point which is a brilliant teaching resource.  If you find yourself with spare time in the week, please do sit with your child and watch these episodes together, as they explain the concept of number in a variety of different ways.

Next week the children will be taking part in their first PE lesson so please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school.

Helpful Reminders: Please ensure your child has their red reading bags and water bottles (not juice) in school daily, and please keep checking the Tavistock Website where Mrs Sloss uploads some of the lovely activities the children have been doing throughout the week, as well as important school reminders.

Have a lovely restful weekend and see you all next week.
