All Things Science and Red Noses

We have all loved our exciting Science Week this week!. Our science focussed on a lot of different subjects such as classifications of animals, fossils, habitats, food chains, life cycles, skeletons and much more! We had lots of fun carrying out some science experiments including a meteor experiment on Friday which the children LOVED!

In English next week, we will start with writing a recount about our science week. We will look over some of the photos and have an in-depth discussion about what we learnt, what we enjoyed and anything we found tricky. In the rest of our lessons, we will practise our skills of sentence writing by writing dictated sentences using our Year 1 common exception words. We will remind the children to use full stops, finger spaces and capital letters correctly.

In maths next week, we will start by comparing different lengths and widths. We will then measure different objects using non-standards units, such as, pencils, cubes, dinosaurs etc. After this, we will move on to using standard units, such as a ruler, to measure objects. Finally, we will use all of our measurement skills to solve different problems involving measurement, using non-standard and standard units.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  • Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday.
  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.
