Happy Saturday everyone!

Miss Sheppard here :) For this term myself and Mrs Manoharan will be sharing the Year 2 blog.

We’ve had a brilliant second week back and we have been working hard as always. We started the week off with a brand new topic in English based on a fantastic book called The Rascally Cake. We thought like detectives and made our own predictions on what the book was going to be about based on the title and illustrations on the front cover. We loved listening to the revolting rhymes, looking at the fabulous pictures and finding out if our predictions were correct.

On Wednesday, we had a great time reading recipes and loved making our very own rascally sandwiches. We used the book as inspiration and opted for some rather creative sandwich fillings – bogies (jelly), maggots (carrots) and spiders legs (strawberry laces) were all on the menu. Once we had finished making the sandwiches we were allowed to eat them, yum yum! After eating our sandwiches, we practised writing a set of instructions and used time connectives to sequence our writing. The spider leg sandwich seemed to be the most popular so if you fancy trying out a new sandwich filling over the weekend head down to Morrisons and buy yourselves some strawberry laces!

In our maths lessons this week, we have been focusing on calculation and learning how to add two 2digit numbers together. The children have been drawing unstructured number lines to show their working out and have used their number bonds to bridge to the nearest ten, when adding the units. This is a tricky skill but the children have shown great resilience in their lessons this week and have used 100 squares to support their learning.

Well done for working so hard on your spellings, boys and girls, the teachers are so proud of you and the progress you have made! Also a big THANK YOU to the grown ups for your continued support with helping your children practise their spellings at home. There will be another spelling test on Monday so keep practising over the weekend – see Google Classroom for more information.

It’s been a very chilly week this week so well done for coming into school all wrapped up with hats, gloves and scarves, we’ve certainly needed them with this cold weather brrrrr! Don’t forget to name your belongings and keep them safely on your peg, you could always pop your gloves in your drawer.

An email was sent out on Wednesday regarding the history homework for this week. On Monday, the children will be creating a timeline based on personal events in their lives. Over the weekend, could you please talk to your children about important dates and events that they can include on their timeline e.g sibling being born, lost their first tooth, started school etc. Please see the email for more information on this homework and send your children to school on Monday with pictures/ notes/ a brain storm to help them remember their important dates.

That’s all for now. Have a wonderful weekend everyone, stay warm, see you on Monday!
