Did you wear your hat, scarf and gloves this week?

It has been a very chilly week weather wise and we have been remembering to wrap up warm during playtimes and lunchtimes, well done if you could fasten your coat by yourself and you did not lose your hat, scarf or gloves!

However, if they did go missing, please check the lost property in the Year 2 corridor.

As ever what a busy week we have had in Year 2! This week, in our English lessons, we have been continuing to look at new vocabulary based on ‘The Rascally cake’. We have also been learning to recognise and use adverbial phrases in relation to time, swapping a simple time connective for an adverbial phrase to make instructions more interesting to read.

So instead of a simple,

‘First turn on the oven’,

adding an adverbial phrase may read,

‘Before you start, turn on the oven’.

The children grasped the idea of removing the simple time connective and adding in an adverbial phrases well and are getting ready to write their own set of instructions next week.

In maths, we have been using on unstructured number line to subtract multiples of tens. We have also been looking at true and false calculations.

In our History lessons, the children have been investigating time lines and sequenced their own personal timeline. This led to lots of interesting class discussion about historical events that have happened in the children’s lives, such as learning to talk, walk or ride a bike, the birth of a sibling or going on their first holiday.

In music, we continued to understand dynamics and duration and worked on composing our own group piece of music taking dynamics and duration into account and we continued with gymnastics in P.E

All of the children in Year 2 have worked extremely hard this week and have earned a well-deserved rest, we hope everyone manages to take one over the weekend. Let’s hope the temperature rises too and the weather is warmer next week!

The Year 2 team.
