Welcome back!

I hope you all had a lovely half term. The children have all come back refreshed and ready for the second half of the spring term. We’ve got lots of exciting things planned including a Science Professors Workshop happening next Tuesday. Please can I also remind you that the children are welcome to come dressed up as any book character or a colour on Thursday 7th March for World Book Day.

In English this week, we have been focussing on the book ‘How to look after your Dinosaur’ by Jason Cockcroft. We started the week by learning about the un- prefix and we have been applying this to some sentences. Then we have been looking at instructions that have adverbs, verbs and time connectives. We have been thinking about and role-playing how to look after a dinosaur so that we can know the sequence of instructions and understand how they should be carried out.

In maths this week, we have been practising reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100. We have also be finding 1 more and 1 less of numbers to 100. Next week, we will begin with recapping place value by reading, building and drawing numbers. We will then use this understanding to find 1 more and 1 less of a number that crossed over the tens. After that, we will use practical resources to find 10 more and 10 less of numbers, and then record our understanding by drawing representations of the numbers in our books.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  • Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday.
  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.
