Ah-choooo!

A week full of sneezing, Lemsips and throwing tissues around like confetti!

I hope you all enjoyed your Firework weekend! Whether you went to a firework event, watched them from a window or enjoyed hot chocolates and marshmallows with friends. I went to watch the Winchester fireworks and I am very grateful Mrs Gadd let me borrow her wellies… they were very much needed!

This week, in our English lessons, we have been continuing to look at our text called Vlad and The Great Fire of London. At the beginning of the week, we were looking at adverbs and conjunctions and finding them within a diary entry. Then, we revisited exclamation marks and question marks and the children practised using these within their own sentences. Towards the end of the week, the children were getting into the character of Vlad the flea. They were writing their own paragraph in the role of Vlad, after having his first ever day at school. Next week, the children will be writing their own diary entries.

This week in maths, we have been learning all about division. The children have been sharing different amounts between 2 and 5.

Later in the week, the children were introduced to the division symbol. We referred to this as ‘shared between’ and ‘divided by’. For example, 8 shared between 2 people equals 4. In our maths lessons, the children have been using word problems and they have had to pick out the important information from it. For example ‘the baker had 25 cakes in a shop. Five children came to the shop to buy some cakes. How many cakes would each child get?’

In our ICT lessons, the children have been using a programme on the computers called 2Publish. They have been drawing their class animal using the mouse and experimenting with the different effects they can create. They have also been becoming more confident when using the keyboard to type some facts about the animal.

The children who will be performing at Fleet Festivities in the choir, have carried on with their rehearsals at lunchtimes. They have been working incredibly hard to learn all of the lyrics – what a tuneful bunch!

Please, please PLEASE make sure your child is bringing a warm coat to school each day! It is getting so cold outside now!

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Heafford and the Year 2 team
