Brighter mornings and evenings…

Thank you to all those parents who attended parents evening this week both face to face and virtually. It was lovely to talk to you all about the progress of your children and suggest things you can do to help support your children in their learning. We really do value all your help with consolidating learning at home, we couldn’t do it without you!

Understandably the parents evening appointments have a time limit allocated, however, we do like to think of ourselves as a friendly and approachable team so please do make use of the weekly appointment slots available if you feel you need to discuss any further concerns with your child’s class teacher. These are every Monday and Tuesday at 2.50pm and you can make an appointment via the office.

Another busy week has flown by and I can’t believe we only have one full week left until February half term. I have started to notice a few signs of spring and we are having brighter mornings and evenings all of which is very encouraging and lifts our spirits, the slightly warmer weather also takes away the pain of having to defrost the car and our fingers!

In English we began our first unit of work based around the book Dinosaur in Danger. The children began looking at the structure of stories and highlighted the journey through Dinosaur in Danger from beginning to middle and end. They created their own story mountain and then delved in to the main character Talon and wrote sentences to describe the dinosaur. I wonder if they could talk to you about the story and the sequence of events and/or Talon?

In maths we have been looking at measuring; length, weight and temperature. The children thoroughly enjoyed the practical element of the lessons this week, working in groups and using the measuring equipment such as rulers, weights and balancing scales. We looked and the various units of measurement for example;  mm, cm, meters, kilometres, grams, we made estimates and then found the correct measurement, the children also learnt about how to read a thermometer accurately. Maybe you could practise looking at the units of measurement when measuring and weighing things at home.

Finally a big thank you to Open View Education who delivered an internet safety workshop to the whole year group on Thursday morning. The children learnt about keeping themselves safe when online, the importance of not sharing their personal information and only using kind words.  I think you’ll agree online awareness is an extremely important and valuable topic for the children as their online presence grows with age.

I think that’s all for now, have a super weekend, we only have one more week of early starts and then we can all have a lie in!
