Spots, Spots and More Spots!

Today we had our charity fund raising event for BBC Children in Need. Funds are raised to make sure we can be there for children and young people by funding thousands of local charities and projects. The SPOTacular annual appeal in November inspires communities across the UK to come together, raise funds and show support.

This week in English, we have had a skills week. We focussed on how to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces correctly to write sentences. On Friday, we spent the morning writing sentences about Autumn.

In maths, we have continued our learning about teen numbers. We have been learning to recognise a teen number as 10 and how many more by recognising the place value of each digit. We have been reading, writing and representing teen numbers in a variety of different ways. We used numicon and money to represent the teen number and start to represent the numbers in a more abstract way. At the end of week, we carried out an assessment to see how much we could remember from the last two weeks.

Next week we are having a topic week! Our main areas of focus are Science and Geography. We will be looking at our 5 senses, human body, maps and atlases, the UK, healthy eating, hygiene as well as carrying out some science experiments. It will be a really fun and exciting week!

Just a few reminders:

  1. Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  2. Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  3. Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday.
  4. Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  5. Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.
