Whizz! Bang! Pop!

What an amazing Science week we have had! Each classroom has been busy planning, predicting and experimenting.

At the beginning of the week, the children were learning about living things and what they need to survive. We spoke about how, although chocolate cakes, phones and tablets are lovely to have, we do not actually need them.

Firstly, we looked at the importance of exercise. The children had a go at different forms of exercise, and we discussed how our bodies changed after completing them. Then, we looked at healthy balanced diets. We referred to the Eatwell plate and learnt about the different sections and their importance. The children had a go at designing their own healthy meals. After this, we explored hygiene and we modelled how quickly germs can spread (using snot green paint – ew!). We heard the ‘happy birthday song’ quite a few times being sang by the sink after this!

This week, the children also learnt about the human body and the different parts of our skeleton. We explored our five different senses too. The children loved putting their noses in all of the different mystery smell pots… not so much the one filled with vinegar though!

Towards the end of the week, we focussed on materials. This involved thinking about the difference between an object and a material and exploring properties that different materials have (e.g. waterproof, transparent, and opaque). We found out that no one wants an umbrella made out of a tissue paper, that’s for sure! We finished the week off designing a shelter for Vlad and Boxton (the characters we have just finished writing about in English). The children had to carefully plan their structure and choose the materials that would be best for purpose. They enjoyed working together to build and test their structure also.

In amongst all of the science, we have been continuing with our Christmas show practice. Next week, we will begin to practise our school play in the hall and on the STAGE! So please remember your big, LOUD voices and huge, cheesy grins!

Christmas show costumes need to be in next week. Please make sure your costume is clearly named and is in a named carrier bag (the more names on things, the better!)

Wonderful Christmas choirrrr, wonderful Christmas choirrrr! You were amazing performing at Fleet Festivities on Wednesday evening. You definitely made us all really proud. Thank you to everyone who came to wave, support and to boogie along with us! I know Mrs Ford especially loved dancing and singing along with us in the audience!

We had a mufti day on Wednesday to raise money for TAFF. Thank you for all of your donations and any tombola prize donations that you gave!

I can’t believe it is December next week… Christmas is just around the corner! I really must start my Christmas shopping!
