1 Week To Go!

Here I am writing the last blog of the year already! Thank you for taking your time to read our waffle each week. I can’t believe the children are heading into Year 2! They are all very excited and have enjoyed spending time in their new classrooms with their lovely new teachers last week.

In English this week, we have been busy writing a letter to our new class teachers. We began the week with creating a poster about ourselves to gather ideas for our writing. After that, we recapped previous learning about questions and then wrote questions that we would like to ask our new teachers. Finally, we wrote our letter to our new teachers to inform them about ourselves and ask them any questions that we might have. In maths, we have been practising telling the time to the nearest hour and half hour. The children recapped the different hands on the clock and practised reading the time to o’clock and half past. They learnt some time facts and practised drawing the hands on the clock to show the different times.

On Wednesday it was Giants in School Day and the children had a busy day learning with their giants. The children read to their giant and took part in some phonics games. We learnt about bird boxes and their purpose and learnt why each bird was suited to a certain type of bird box. The children picked a bird to research and created a fact file based on that bird. They then designed and created a bird box and decorated it using different craft materials. The outcome was amazing and each box was very individual, I am certain the birds will love them! We finished the day with an assembly which involved lots of singing, dancing and show and tell.

Next week is our final week in Year 1 with the last day for the children being Friday 18th July. We will spend some time reflecting on Year 1 and discussing what we are looking forward to over the summer. We will be doing lots of science work and rounding off with the week with some William Morris art work. On Wednesday morning, we will be walking to Calthorpe Park as part of our Geography learning and we will be looking at human and physical features in our local area.

Thank you all again from the entire Year 1 team. We appreciate your support, encouragement and kind words which we cherish and we wish you and the children all the best for the future. Please make sure you come back and say hello at some point! We love to hear how you are getting on. “Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.” – J.M.
