Happy Half Term!
As we are due to start our swimming lessons after half term, it would be helpful if you and your child visit Hart Leisure Centre to help your child become familiar with the setting. This will really help your child to know what the changing rooms are like and how warm the water is. The children all end up having a lovely time learning alongside their friends so please don’t worry. Thank you so much to all our lovely volunteers who are kindly giving us their free time to help support the children. We really appreciate it! Another big THANK YOU to the TAFF team who ran the money train activity this week on Wednesday in school. The children had so much fun and were all desperate to win the prize of extra playtime!! Thank you for your support with TAFF activities it does make all the difference.
In Maths this week, we have been practising addition and subtraction using a number line, jumping forwards and backwards and carefully counting the jumps to work out the correct answer. We have been using our skills to spot the mistakes and developing our mathematical vocabulary around addition and subtraction.
After half term, we will continue learning about addition. To start the week, we will practise our skills of counting on to add two single digit numbers. To help us with this we will use a number line, bar models and cherry diagrams. After that, we will have a think about how we can use our number bonds to 10 to help us find bonds to make 20. We will use practical resources including Numicon and as we are working, we will look for any patterns.
In our English lessons this week, we continued to use the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ as our focus. We consolidated our previous learning by writing a diary about all the vegetables Oliver picked in the garden while staying at his Grandparents house. We made sure we included our amazing adjectives to describe the vegetables and added in some estwords we had generated earlier this week. We also took the time at the end of our lesson to check our work for full stops and capital letters. The children all produced a super piece of writing and should be very proud of themselves.
Just a few reminders:
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
- Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
- Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday for Bumble Bees and Tuesday for Hedgehogs.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
- Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.
