Summer Term is Here!
It’s super to be back at school for the summer term! We hope you all had a restful Easter holiday and enjoyed eating lots of chocolate eggs!
This week in maths, we have been taking a first look at multiplication. First, we reminded ourselves how to count in 2’s and 5’s, then using practical resources we also looked at finding and making groups of 2’s and 5’s. Finally, we mastered recording repeated addition with 2’s and 5’s. Next week, we will be learning how to divide amounts! We will start off by practically sharing between 2 and then move onto sharing between 5. We will also take a look at the division symbol.
In English, we shared our holiday news and wrote about all the things we had done during the holidays. We introduced the book; The magical Garden of Claude Monet by Laurence Anholt, and took part in lots of wonderful discussions about the features of a garden. We also learnt about nouns and adjectives and began to verbally build sentences using nouns and adjectives to describe Claude Monet’s garden. Next week, we will continue with this unit of work and begin to write amazing descriptions of Claude Monet’s garden.
Just a few reminders:
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
- Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
- PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE – Our Year 1 PE day is now on a Monday for Bumblebee Class and Tuesday for Hedgehog Class.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
- Library book change will be on a Friday.
Dates:
- Walk to school week:19th – 23rd May.
We like to think of ourselves as a friendly and approachable team and if there is anything you have concerns about, please let us know and we will do our best to help.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week!
Mrs Manoharan and the Year 1 Team.
