Headteacher's Blog

Friday 14th November 2025

Well here we are. Another Friday has arrived. It has sadly been wet play so everyone is a bit stir crazy and to be honest we are counting down the minutes until 3.15.

I know that this week was national anti-bullying week but because we were only able to book workshops for next Wednesday, we decided to wait. That is not to say that we didn't talk about always being kind to each other because we do that all the time. It is non-negotiable that we will treat each other with respect and kindness. If we do have a slight blip, then again it is non-negotiable that we say sorry and really think about how our actions impact on others and also on ourselves. We think about what we could do next time and learn from the blip. One of the most important lessons we try to teach the children is that it is far better to own up than blame someone else or deny carrying out the unkind or disrespectful  action. It is such an important life skill to be able to do this and believe me I still meet adults who won't admit they have done something wrong!

Tuesday, as we all know, was Remembrance Day and the children did a really good job understanding the concept. I was living and working in Germany during the Gulf War. I was teaching at an RAF Tornado base and having first-hand experience of soldiers being deployed has stuck with me. The children were so very brave and obviously so were the families who had family members on active service. They all pulled together and provided great support and comfort to each other. Thank you to all the brave service men and women who continue to look after us.

I am continuing to show prospective parents around for the September 2026 intake and you may or may not know, but inspite of there being many new houses built in Fleet there aren't a lot of school-age children and there are so many schools in Fleet with spaces. Parents are spoiled for choice but if you do know anyone who is looking for a place for September 2026 point them in the direction of Tavistock because we are lovely!

The weather is awful this weekend and rumour has it we might have snow next week. I am not convinced that snow would settle after all this rain but I am grateful for the rain because after a very hot summer and dry spring we need all the water we can get. There is a saying isn't there that there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong gear. Apparently, English art critic John Ruskin (1819-1900) said in an 1883 lecture at Oxford, “for me, there was no such thing as bad weather, but only different kinds of pleasant weather.” To be honest as soon as I get home tonight I will be wearing the right gear to stay snuggled up on the couch with the heating on!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy whatever the weather brings our way.
