Headteacher's Blog
Friday 16th January 2026
As I drove home last week I suddenly remembered that I hadn't written my blog and a whole week has gone by and I haven't had a minute to add a new one but today I can!
Everyone has settled back in and the children have definitely grown over the Christmas break. Year 2 are in their last half of the year before they move on. Year 1 are starting to do some whole class lessons ready for Year 2 and Year R are just Year R. It is far too soon for them to start thinking about being in Year 1 so they are just carrying on digging in the mud and having a simply marvellous time with all their friends.
The weather was a bit of a shock wasn't it and I think we had every season in the first week back. Sadly, not enough snow to build a snowman but definitely enough rain to launch a ship. Thankfully the children were able to go outside at playtimes today because there is nothing worse than wet play on a Friday.
All the classes have started new topics and there is much excitement around school especially in Year 2 who are looking forward to their school trip to the Moon. I have to be completely honest the children put me to shame with their knowledge and I still don't know the order of the planets from the sun. I am sure I was taught it at some point but it clearly never stuck in my long term memory. Year 1 are also amazing me with the names of all the dinosaurs they know and can spell. They might forget the 'n' in 'went' but stegosaurus, bring it on! I am a bit more confident with the traditional tales down in Year R and, as they say, the oldies are always the best. We can still learn a lot from the gingerbread man and the fox to this day. I know that children come out of school saying they have done 'nothing' so please don't forget to look at our website which is packed full of information about our curriculum.
I have a quiet Saturday because Mr O is in London and my grandson is visiting next weekend. I have a feeling I will have a lovely slump on the couch (sofa to anyone who is southern) and eat crisps and dip. There must be a box set I can binge and recharge my batteries. On Sunday I will need to take Mr O out for a run because he's a bit like a dog in that if he hasn't been out he will be restless/annoying.
Have a marvellous weekend whatever you do and see you on Monday.
