Team TAFF

Our Summer Fair was a great success and even the sun shined for us! A huge thank you to our wonderful TAFF team. They are a small but mighty team who pulled that together so wonderfully for families in our community to enjoy. It was an excellent event – thank you so much to everyone who popped along and contributed in one way or another.

As we are due to start our swimming lessons after half term, it would be helpful if you and your child visit Hart Leisure Centre to help your child become familiar with the setting. This will really help your child to know what the changing rooms are like and how warm the water is. The children all end up having a lovely time learning alongside their friends so please don’t worry.

In Maths this week, we have been applying our knowledge of number bonds within 10 to solve problems. We have used resources to show part, part whole for numbers between 5 and 8. We then created part, part whole models and found the missing parts to make the whole numbers. After that, we used our knowledge of facts for 5,6,7 and 8, to solve problems and show our understanding. Next week, we will be continuing to apply our knowledge of number bonds within 10 to solve problems. We will use resources and tens frames to show part, part whole for the numbers 9 and 10. We will then use our number bond knowledge to solve a range of problems and balance equations. During the week, we will also apply our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to complete reasoning problems to develop our explanations.

In our English lessons this week, we have been using the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. As a stimulus for our English learning. We began the week with exploring different vegetables and generating adjectives to describe them. Then we moved on to ordering the days of the week and writing noun phrases to describe the vegetables. Next week, we will be continuing to use the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ as a stimulus for our writing. We will then be planning and writing a diary as the conclusion to our unit.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  • Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday for Bumble Bees and Tuesday for Hedgehogs.
  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.

Dates:

  • WB 16th May – Walk to School Week
  • WB 26th May – Half Term

We like to think of ourselves as a friendly and approachable team and if there is anything you have concerns about, please let us know and we will do our best to help.
