Welcome back!

I hope you all had a lovely half term. What a fun week it’s been this week! We had our class photos on Wednesday, luckily the rain stopped for us so we could go out onto the playground for the photo. We also had our first swimming this week! The children were absolute super stars walking to and from Hart Leisure Centre and loved being in the water despite it being a bit chilly when getting out.  They were all so well behaved and already looking forward to next week’s session.

In maths this week, we have worked systematically to find number bonds to 20 and have shown our working out in a variety of ways. We have worked practically using 10s frames and have used our findings to solve missing number problems. Next week in maths, we will be consolidating our place value knowledge and practising how to partition 2digit numbers into tens and units.

We have started looking at a fabulous new book in English called Greta and the Giants. It is based on Greta Thunberg standing up to the giants who have been building factories and spoiling the forest. She makes a protest to help protect the homes of the animals. It is a lovely story and is full of great vocabulary, which we looked closely at on Wednesday and discussed the meaning of the unfamiliar words. The children also created their own plaques in art and wrote an exclamation sentence on them to capture the giant’s attention. We finished the week by completing a written comprehension based on the book to show our understanding of the text.

Just a reminder that we have our first tennis lesson on Monday so please make sure your child has their PE kit and trainers in school.

We are also going on our school trip to Beale Park on Tuesday, so please make sure your child is in school on time so we can leave promptly after the register. They will all need to bring their water bottle with them and those not having a school packed lunch will need to bring their own along. If it is supposed to be warm, please apply sun cream before school and send your child in with a sun hat. If it is raining, please remember to send them to school with a rain jacket.

Just a few extra reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  • PE will be on Mondays for both classes due to tennis lessons taking place.
  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library books are changed on a Friday during our library time. The children are also welcome to change their books during lunchtimes when the library is open.
