Back with a splash!
Welcome back to the final half term in Year 2! We can hardly believe how quickly the year has flown by! We hope you all had a lovely and restful week and it’s been great to see the children come back with huge smiles and I’m pretty sure they’ve all grown a few inches too!
We had our first swimming lesson at the Hart Leisure Centre this week, and the children were brilliant! There was a mix of excitement and a few nervous butterflies, but everyone gave it their best effort. The Year 2 team were all incredibly proud of them all!
Here’s a little reminder of the things that the children need to remember to bring each Tuesday:
- A named swimming costume/trunks
- A towel
- A bag that’s easy to carry
- Goggles (optional)
- A raincoat
We should have also had our last tennis session with Jamie on Monday, but unfortunately he was poorly. Jamie has kindly rescheduled for next Friday instead – yippee!
In English, we have been working towards writing a job advert for a knight. Throughout the week, we have explored what an advert is and what makes it effective. We’ve also been learning about the difference between a knight’s job and their qualities, ready to write our own adverts next week.
In maths, we’ve been revisiting adding and subtracting ten, and using this knowledge to help solve two-digit + two-digit problems with an unstructured number line. The children are building confidence with using jumps and explaining their thinking. Next week, we will be using a similar method to subtract.
Timestables and spellings have come to an end now. Thank you for your continued support with this and keep practising these over the summer.
Let’s just hope the rain gives us a break soon so we can enjoy some sunshine! Fingers crossed for brighter skies next week.
Have a lovely (and hopefully drier!) weekend,
Miss H and the Year 2 team x
