From almost melting… to terrific team spirit!
We began the week by almost melting… I know we shouldn’t moan about the glorious sunshine but the UK seems to have miserable rain or unbearable heat and no inbetween! I wish we could have the lovely sunshine but with 24 degrees and a light breeze – doesn’t that sound perfect!
Despite the mini heatwave and almost melting, the children showed great focus and determination during their Big Write in English. They wrote persuasive letters inviting people to visit them at the castle to see them perform their knightly duties. From guarding royal treasures to taking part in jousting tournaments, their imaginations were truly on fire! It’s amazing to see how far the children have come from the start of the year. I know that myself and Mrs Gadd are extremely proud of every single one of you!
On Wednesday, whilst the teachers went to meet their new class and read a story to them, the Year 2’s enjoyed going back to visit their Year R classroom for a story time session with their Year R teacher. They adored going back down to see at all of the toys they used to play with and the teachers couldn’t help but notice how grown up they’ve all become!
In the afternoon, the children had the chance to be wonderful role models as they welcomed the new Year 1’s into the Mole and Squirrel classroom. They showed them around with confidence and enthusiasm, taking great pride in pointing out where everything is and explaining how things work in their new classroom. Some of the Year 1s were a little nervous to come across to the other side of the school, but they quickly felt at ease through the help of our wonderful Year 2’s. It felt like only yesterday, our Year 2s were in their position… how has it been a whole year already!
Thursday was a big day – the Year 2s made their way across the field to All Saints School for their transition morning. Although there were a few nervous faces at the start, they came back beaming with excitement and full of stories to tell. We were so proud of how brave and mature they were – you really did us all proud!
We rounded off the week with our Sports Day on Friday. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support – it made the day even more special. The children gave it their all, cheering each other on and showing brilliant sportsmanship throughout. A huge thank you to CM Sports for organising the events and helping us to create a memorable last sports day at Tavistock for the year group.
Alongside all of this, our Leavers’ Assembly practices have been in full swing all week! The children are working incredibly hard and putting in such effort to make it a special and memorable performance.
Reminder: Please remember that children can wear party clothes to school on the day of the performances. The performances will be around 30 mins and will start from 9am (ish!)
