How is it the summer term already?
I hope everyone had a fun and restful Easter holidays and ate lots of delicious Easter eggs! Isn’t it lovely finally having some sunshine and lighter evenings?
We have had a lovely first week back in Year 2. The children have settled back into school brilliantly and are all raring to go. We have so many exciting things coming up in the summer term, such as swimming, tennis, a trip to Windsor, Fleet Carnival and sports day! Our learning will also be focused upon our new topic… Castles and Dragons.
This week, in our English lessons, we enjoyed reading the children’s recount about their Easter holiday and we also learnt about acrostic poems based on the beautiful season of spring.
In our maths learning, we finished off our work on positional language, using the vocabulary left, right, quarter turn, half turn and full turn. The children had fun creating a positional sequence using mini mice and we also wrote instructions to get through a range of mazes.
In our topic work, we have looked at the history of Fleet and created a mini timeline choosing some of the main events of the development of our town.
We were very lucky to have a visitor in school on Friday, Doctor Sham, the dentist came and talked to the whole school about the importance of keeping teeth clean and not too many sweets! The children really enjoyed her visit and there was lots of time to questions too.
There are lots of things to remember at the moment, get your diaries ready!
We are very excited to see the children’s projects on How to become a knight. Please bring your project into school on Monday ready for the Year 2 museum walk.
- Book change on Monday – please make sure books and diaries are in.
- Tennis lessons start on Monday – please make sure PE kits are in.
- Times table test is on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend and fingers crossed the sun continues shining,
Mrs Gadd and the Year 2 team
