Knights, Numbers and a Splash of Sunshine

What a wonderfully warm week it’s been in Year 2! With the sunshine beaming down, we’ve all been making sure to keep our water bottles topped up and stay nice and hydrated throughout the day. The children have been brilliant at keeping our school flowerbeds watered too – our little gardeners are doing a great job of helping the plants thrive in the sunshine! Might need a little more weeding next week though… A little reminder — please don’t send in suncream in your child’s bag, as we have to be careful with allergies.

At the beginning of the week, w enjoyed another swimming lesson this week. The children are growing in confidence and it’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm in the water.

In English, we’ve been looking at the features of a letter as we get ready to write our own. We have practiced extending our sentences using ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘because’ this week. This skill will help us next week when we begin to plan for our letter. We be imagining that we are brave knights and we need to write home from a grand castle, trying to persuade our families to come and visit us. You would all come and visit us, wouldn’t you?

In maths, we’ve been exploring efficient ways to add and subtract 2-digit numbers. Instead of using number lines, we’ve been partitioning the numbers into tens and ones, adding them separately and then combining the totals. The children loved how quick and clever this method is! We also used this approach to practise doubling and halving amounts, which really helped to speed up our thinking.

Exciting news — Sports Day is coming up! Slips have gone home this week letting you know your child’s team colour. On the day, children will need to come dressed in that colour. Teams will be made up of children from across the year group, and we’re looking forward to a fun, active day full of team spirit and cheer! Sports Day will be on Friday 4th July. Year 2 – 9:15 to 10:15. We hope you can make it

What a lovely week full of learning, sunshine and smiles. Hopefully the sunshine will last a little longer… make sure you don’t melt over the weekend!
