Loving this weather…
I do hope you’ve all had a lovely week, the sun is really being wonderful! I can’t believe how quickly the summer term is racing by, before we know it, it’ll be half term.
First of all, a huge thank you to our wonderful TAFF for organising a brilliant summer fayre. Unfortunately, I was unable to go but I heard nothing but great things about it and as a school we truly appreciate everything you do. This coming Wednesday, we will be seeing which class can create the longest ‘money train’ using any spare change which will have been kindly donated by yourselves. Once the ‘trains’ have been laid out on the hall floor, TAFF will collect all the money up, count it and put it towards something on the school wish list or special treats such as a visiting theatre group. TAFF are such an incredible bunch of volunteers, they work so hard dreaming up new and innovative ideas to fundraise for the school and every single penny goes back to benefit the wonderful children at Tavistock. Once again, thank you TAFF!
Of course, it’s been another busy week in school. Year 2 had tennis on Monday afternoon with Jamie the tennis coach. The children really enjoy these lessons and it’s great to see how much the children’s skills are able to develop in just five lessons. In our normal P.E. lessons, we are working on Target games which is a lot of fun especially we the two classes join together to have one big session. After half term, we will be going swimming, so get your cossies and trunks ready!
In maths this week we have been identifying and naming 3D shapes. We have been looking at them closely and counting up the number of faces, edges and vertices. We have also enjoyed spotting 3D shapes out in the real world and comparing 3D shapes with each other. In English, we have practised writing diary entries based on our fabulous trip to Windsor last week. We have worked hard to use appropriate language for diary writing and remembered to use emotion vocabulary too. We have also planned our Big Write which we are excited to start on Monday.
A couple of things to remember for next week:
10 x tables on Monday.
Big spelling test of all 64 Year 2 Common Exception Words.
Walk to school week – the children have a big tick list up in class to say whether they have walked to school for each day. Don’t worry if you have to drive in each day – if you park a little further away so your walk is a bit longer, that counts too as does scootering and biking! The children love ticking the big chart each day when they have done their bit to help save the planet and exercise their body, the whole thing generates an awful lot of excitement!
Think that’s it for now, have a great weekend and see you next week.
The Year 2 Team.
