Transitions, Tallies and Team Spirit!

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 2!

On Tuesday, the children enjoyed another brilliant swimming session. They are becoming more confident in the water each week, and it’s lovely to see their progress. A reminder that due to the swimming pool floor problems earlier this term, we have an extra swimming session on Tuesday 8th July. Please remember to bring in swimming kits on that day!

In English, we’ve been exploring persuasive writing. The children have been busy planning their big write – a letter to you, their grown-ups, persuading you to visit them at the castle! They’ve come up with some brilliant arguments and persuasive phrases. Towards the end of the week, they began writing their real letters, which we’ll be finishing off next week. We can’t wait for you to read them!

In Maths, we’ve been looking at data handling. The children have collected information on teacher’s favourite colours, favourite sports and fruits, and learned how to record it using tally charts. They then presented this data in block graphsbar charts, and pictograms.

With Fleet Carnival just around the corner, excitement is building! This week we had our final workshop, where we put the finishing touches on our props. A big thank you for all your support with costumes and materials. Don’t forget to bring your bright headbands and wear vibrant colours on the day – it’s going to be a colourful and fun event!

We’ve also carried on preparing for our Year 2 Leavers’ Assembly. This week we had our first rehearsal in the hall, and we’ll continue practising next week. Please help your child practise their lines at home – and remind them to use loud voices and show off their smiling faces!

Most children now know their classes for Year 3, and next week we will be starting our transition activities. As the oldest children at Tavistock, their transition looks a little different! On Wednesday, they’ll be visited by their old Year R teacher, who will be amazed at how grown-up they’ve become! In the afternoon, Year 2 will be playing an important role by welcoming the nervous Year 1s into Mole class, showing them around and reassuring them that there’s nothing to worry about. Then on Thursday, those moving on to All Saints Junior School will be heading off for their transition morning. It’s an exciting time, and we’re so proud of how mature and ready they are.

Don’t forget – Sports Day is next Friday! Your child should have brought home a slip in their bag letting you know which team colour they need to wear. Please make sure they come to school dressed in their team colour, ready to run, jump and cheer their hearts out. And grown-ups – bring your loudest voices and your best cheers. We can’t wait to see you there supporting the children!

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Have a lovely weekend!
