What a lot of coins!
Who’d have thought that laying out loads of coins on the hall floor would cause such great excitement! It was like being at a huge sporting event here on Wednesday morning. The children worked brilliantly together to form money trains and the class with the longest train won. I don’t want to sound boasty, so I wont mention the winners in Year 2 but it was a very close thing. Thank you to TAFF for organising another brilliant fundraiser which was definitely enjoyed by all.
This week in English, the children have worked sooooo hard writing their diaries based on The Egg. We have been amazed by the children’s writing over the course of the week, and acorns and moles in the hole have definitely been truly deserved. On another English note, well done to all the children who did the Big spelling test on Monday – 64 words is a lot to learn and remember and a great effort was put in by all.
In maths, we have been investigating symmetry of shape, capital letters and flags. We have learned that not everything is symmetrical and that some things have more than one line of symmetry. We have also been using the language of vertical and horizontal. I wonder if you could spot anything symmetrical over the half term holiday and practise using the words horizontal and vertical. How many times can you squeeze those two words into conversation?!
We have been managing to get outside to use our class skipping ropes for a quick skipping session. Even a quick five minutes is beneficial for our bodies and our brains so as the weather keeps improving, we keep going out. We have also managed to get a few bits and bobs planted in our raised beds at the back so fingers crossed, things wont be eaten by slugs!
I think that’s about it for this half term. Here are a couple of things to remember:
No school next week, it’s half term.
Random 10s times table test on the first Monday back.
Our last tennis lesson is also on the first Monday back so PE kits need to be in school.
Our swimming lessons start on Tuesday, please ensure you are on time to school with your swimming kit and pants!
Keep listening to your child read and colouring in stars!
Have a wonderful week off and see you all on the 2nd June.
Best wishes from the Year 2 Team.
