What fabulous weather!

Can you believe the weather we have had this week? No coats on at playtime and the jumper and cardigan box full because it’s too warm to wear them….long may it last.

Another week has gone by in a flash but it was quite hard doing five days instead of four, don’t you just love a bank holiday?! Even better, we have another one coming up, I do hope the weather stays lovely as I have a lot of jobs to do in my garden.

It was splendid to see the Knights projects at the beginning of the week. The children so enjoy talking to their friends about what they have learnt and how they put their homework together. Museum walks are very popular with the children (and adults), as it is so lovely to see such a huge range of ideas in one place. Well done Year 2 and thank you so much for supporting your child with their project.

This week in English, we were quite amazed to find three very large eggs in the school garden. After much discussion and deliberation, we decided that perhaps they could be dragon eggs and that they had been left hidden in the garden for safe keeping. This kicked off our new English unit of diary writing very nicely, and we have spent this week looking at the features of a diary, as well as learning about writing in the first person and revisiting the past tense and using emotions in writing.

In our maths learning, we have been revisiting money. We have been recognising the different coins and their value. Remember the size of the coin does not reflect the coin’s value – is 5p worth the least because it is the smallest? We have been practising making different amounts using the different coins. Can you find any coins over the weekend and practise making 20p? Next week, we will be looking at 2D shapes and their properties.

We have another busy week ahead, I will be taking the Sing from the Hart Choir up to The Harlington Centre with Miss Heafford and Mrs O Connor on Wednesday afternoon. The children have worked very hard and we are all looking forward to singing with children from the other schools. We are all off to Windsor Castle on Thursday for our Year 2 trip which is always fabulous, and at the end of the week we have tennis. Lots of lovely things as always to learn and do together.

Things to remember:

Book change on Tuesday (as we are off on Monday) – please make sure books and diaries are in.

Tennis lessons on Friday this week  – please make sure PE kits are in.

Times tables tests on Tuesday – random 5s

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend and fingers crossed the sun continues shining.

Mrs Gadd and the Year 2 Team.
