Where has the week gone?
I blinked and I think I may have missed it. It was lovely to have the Bank Holiday Monday off, I trekked round Long Acres Garden Centre and spent too much money but I did have a lovely time and my garden is looking all the better for it.
It has been quite busy week in Year 2 this week, we have crammed a lot into four days. The Sing from the Hart Choir were tremendous on Wednesday, we practised entering and exiting the stage, our line formations and of course a run through of all the songs with the other seven schools. Our children sang and behaved beautifully and were a true credit to Tavistock. We all had to be extra patient whilst lots of dancers rehearsed and performed as well, this element of the show was a complete surprise to us all, but hey ho, a curved ball once in a while is no bad thing! We were very proud of the children who had practised very hard with me over the last few months, so a massive well done to our lovely choir.
Yesterday, we all jumped onto the coach for a fabulous day out to Windsor Castle, and fabulous it was. The weather was perfect, the children loved seeing the State Apartments and how grand everything is. They particularly enjoyed seeing St George’s Hall with all the knights shields and learning about why some of the shields were plain. Our workshop with the very enthusiastic Martin was great fun and we all came away with some new titbits of knowledge about knights.
As I’m writing this early on Friday morning, I’m looking outside and thinking it should be nice enough for our tennis outside which will be a lovely start to the day.
We have managed to get some classroom learning done this week too, in English we recapped the ed suffix and how it can sometimes sound like an id, d or t at the end of the word but it is always an ed in the spelling. In maths we were revisiting 2D shapes and looking at properties ie, naming the shape, how many sides, how many vertices and if the shape has any right angles. Next week we will be moving onto 3D shapes.
Things to remember:
X10 test on Monday.
Big Spelling test coming up on MONDAY 19th MAY for most children. Please keep supporting your child in the words that they are still finding tricky. The word mat was posted on GC a couple of weeks ago.
Book change on Monday, please ensure books and diaries are in school.
A full PE kit should be kept in school during the summer term and this should include plimsolls/trainers that fit please.
TAFF summer fayre tomorrow at school.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
Mrs Gadd and the Year 2 Team.
